Africa Data Centres is expanding its Midrand facility in Johannesburg, driven by surging demand for data center capacity as businesses across the continent fast-track their digital transformation efforts post-COVID-19.

The upgraded facility will provide the flexibility modern enterprises need—offering everything from low-density racks for smaller businesses to high-density solutions for large enterprises.

Once complete, the expansion will add 10 megawatts of capacity and significantly boost the region’s available data center infrastructure. Built to Tier IV standards—one of the highest levels of data center reliability—this facility is among the few of its kind in South Africa.

The development will feature four data halls with 6,000 m² of white space (approximately 64,600 ft²), a total IT load of 20 MW, and direct connectivity to major network hubs and Dark Fibre Infrastructure. Efficient cooling will be maintained through hot and cold aisle containment systems.

To ensure high levels of security and reliability, all critical systems will be monitored around the clock via a security operations center and service control center. The facility also features a low-pressure gas fire suppression system activated by dual-sensor fire detection.

Africa Data Centres maintains rigorous compliance with international standards, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and PCI DSS, ensuring robust data security and operational excellence.
